Solutions/Ways to Help

There is no immediate cure that will solve the issue of domestic violence completely, but there are ways to help.

Advocate and spread awareness on Domestic Violence. This could be doing a school project on it or giving a presentation to a local organization that focuses on community needs. The less domestic violence is talked about, the more and more cases rise. Once we spread awareness, more women will know what to look out for, and knowing these warning signs they may be able to leave abusive relationships early, before anything too severe happens.

You can also donate money or your time (volunteer hours) to many organizations that are fighting against DV. A simple Google search will show what organizations are in need of donations and where they can be mailed. Also, do some research and see if there are any local drives or events that you could volunteer at. Not only are you helping survivors and victims, you would be further educating yourself on the topic.

If you believe your friend or family member is in an abusive relationship, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline and work out a Safety Plan so that the friend can separate themself from the toxic relationship without their having to be any physical repercussions.

If you yourself have just gotten out of an abusive relationship, contact your local court to see how you can go about filing a protection order. This is a court order that prohibits your abuser from coming within a certain number of feet from you.
