The First Major Airport In The Metropolitan Area
Newark Metropolitan Airport, also known as EWR, is located at 3 Brewster Rd, Newark, New Jersey. It is located on the border of the cities Newark and Elizabeth, a driveable distance from from both New York City and northern New Jersey. While it is considered property of the City of Newark, it is operated and managed by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. EWR is considered a milestone in both aviation and local history, as it was the first commercial airport in its area. Opening on October 1, 1928, it predates the opening of LaGuardia airport on December 2, 1939. Newark Metropolitan Airport was, and still is, a major transportation hub for both domestic and international flights.
