What does the 1920’s mean to you?

What do the 20’s mean to you? (Before)

It has been over 100 years and people still study the 1920’s. Nothing teaches people
better than looking at world development. With serious advances in technology, medicine,
warfare, and social belief, the 1920s were a time hailed for optimism. A belief that we can
endure and overcome as a people, regardless of circumstances. We see advances in
technology, with the introduction of the television. We see advances in medicine like penicillin.
We see advances in warfare like heaving incorporation of aviation for combat. And socially,
people reformed and regrouped thought processes and philosophical concepts. In reality, I am
rather uneducated about what was transpiring in the 1920’s. I will give a basic overview of what I
know, how I feel, and what I am excited about for the topic below.

The 20’s of 100 years ago made great advancement, and I do wonder when 2030 comes
around how much of a difference we will have made in 10 years, 100 years in the future. It
continues to give us context and value, and I am extremely excited to see how we compare and
contrast the time gap. What we know to be true was heavily influenced by philosophers of the
1920’s. Philosophers questioning whether or not philosophy can be measured by certain
parameters, and giving us ethical lines that people debate and use to this day. I would wager
that given some time, I will start to learn more about the philosophical side of the 1920’s, and I
hope to learn more about other advancements made during the time period. It will be interesting
to get knowledge of 100 years ago, and see how the rest of the century transpires in
comparision, not just the marginalized difference. Both the type and amount of difference
measured will be. When I go and look at images from the time period, I feel almost compelled to
say it seems ancient. They are in vehicles beyond even my parents time, and seem completely
immersed with the concept of a camera. Headdresses, feathers, and sparkly beads, all seem to
be a staple of the time period. Slicked down hair and top hats also seem to be common themes.
The difference in image is drastic, and can give them enough personality to captivate an
audience to explore the time period. Slim body vehicles are the trend, and you might see
someone using an umbrella as a walking cane. Architecture seems so unlively due to lack of
color, and without the flamboyant and over the top emotion portrayed, you would feel nothing of
the image. Every picture is lively, and you can see happiness through such a dull turnout. The
20’s showing emotion gives personality to the black and white. The fashion style is completely
different, and I can’t imagine seeing anyone wearing anything similar to what people wore in the
1920’s. With all of that said, it should be obvious why I am both excited to learn more about the
1920’s, and would recommend you do the same.
