When I think of the 1920’s the first thing to come to mind is the book /Film “The Great Gatsby”.While watching / reading this the 1920’s was described as a loud flamboyant time in history when you were largely wealthy or very poor.Cars were being used more often as transportation.Factories and railroads were on the rise as cities were becoming more populated and spreading out.Tobacco was frequently advertised as a medical remedy throughout the United States.
I personally view this era was bold.Throughout history you see the constricted and controlled behavior people experienced. The 1920’s allowed the people to finally openly express them self and not be judged. This was done a lot causing people to take advantage with excessive drinking, drugs and a lot of crime rise during this period such as mob families being heavily involved.

Once I researched 1920’s it gave me a broader idea of the 1920’s.This period was labeled the “roaring twenties” for a number of reasons. The 20’s brought a lot of change throughout America which seemed to break the mold of obedient citizen. This caused people were breaking free from social norms, disobeying laws throwing lavish parties or working just to provide meals for their families. The government wanted more control which is when the prohibition started in hopes of more orginization.Thisdidnt work in fact it created mobster spreading their influence. They played a large role within cities and even politics. The 1920’s also experienced prohibition which denied the U.S. access to imported goods and even didn’t allow the sale of alcohol. This caused a lot of underground bars selling alcohol specifically being sold by the mob.High crime groups started popping up all across America commonly consisting of Italians but also included irish families and jewish families. There was also a large cultural change as jazz started to become more popular in the big cities such as New York and Chicago.Women’s fashion started to change into very bold and was made to draw a lot of attention which used to be seen as taboo but now socially accepted in this era.Electricity was being used alot and because of this films were being made and even radios being used as entertainment. There was a lot of money being thrown around during this era.A common thing seen is people willing to defy laws all for a good time which was normally an uncommon thing before the 1920s.This outgoing era being seen as a lavished decade started to decrease and finally ended with the market crash of 1929.This being one of many reasons the great depression started. The great depression put all of America into hardships and this once flamboyant loud exciting era was now in need of money and work. This caused people to protest and seek work to provide for their now very poor families struggling to survive in this economy. From living in lavishment and worry free to fighting to provide.
