Religion and LGBTQ

Acceptance

In the tab arguments against LGBTQ+, I have given a brief description of why Christianity is against homosexuality. I have also provided an example of a Chrisitan church accepting LGBTQ+ members fully and completely.

I want to make something clear immediately. Many people point out inconsistencies in the bible and deny it as a justifiable source. I am not going to do that. I am in no way saying that Christianity is wrong. Christians have the right to believe what they do and that includes believing homosexuality and transgender are immoral. Religious freedom is the inherent right to worship or practice in any way they wish. I am not Christian, I am agnostic and I support Religious freedom because I want the ability to believe what I think is right. Everyone else should have that ability as well. That is tolerance, which humanity desperately needs. Having said that, let me describe the paradox of tolerance. The idea behind this philosophy is that unlimited tolerance causes the destruction of tolerance. “In other words, if a demand for unlimited tolerance suggests that we need to tolerate the most awful ideas and acts that occur within society (specifically, those that oppress others), we’re providing a tacit endorsement of those policies”(Molloy). This means that to have a more equal society where everyone’s rights are protected, we cannot tolerate intolerance. A Chrisitan can believe that homosexuality and transgenderism is wrong. The issue is when Religion prevents LGBTQ+ individuals from having basic rights like marriage. By calling people abominations, persecuting them, or verbally abusing LGBTQ+ is intolerance in the name of religious freedom. I don’t say Christians are evil or discriminate against them. There are limits to our freedom because our freedom can eliminate equality. I advocate for religious freedom despite not being religious. Going to church doesn’t hurt me or anyone else. It makes people happy and gives them purpose so why would I have the right to try and prevent it? LGBTQ+ are just people who want to be equal, who want to live a happy life. Everyone should have a right to identify as they wish, love who they love, and feel comfortable in their own bodies. That harms no one. LGBTQ+ are no threat to America, to children, to the military, or to anyone. They are exactly like cisgender or heterosexual people; the good and the bad.
