Ramapo Lunaape Nation Community Engagement

Name: Neriko Doerr

Discipline: Anthropology

Courses/Semesters Taught: World Cultures (ANTH 223), Fall 2019

Digital Tools: WordPress and Juxtapose

I will be using digital pedagogy in the class ANTH 223 World Cultures this semester (Fall 2019). In the class, students are required to work with an indigenous community for eight hours outside class as their final project and report on their work in their final paper. One of the options for the class project I offer is to work with Ramapoguh Lunaape Nation, a local Native American Nation, in their efforts to document their oral history in digital format. I have discussed this with their leader, Chief Dwaine Perry, and am planning to work with several other members of the Nation, collaborating also with Prof. Cathy Hajo and Prof. Sarah Koenig at Ramapo College.

In guiding this project, I would like to learn the use of WordPress, Juxtapose, and other programs to better assist the students in working in their final project. I would also like to utilize the skills I will get to work with Ramapough Lunaape Nation as part of our engagement with local communities, as they have been a big part of the classes I have been teaching over the years at Ramapo College.
