Students Against Stigma

The Problem

Navigating a mental health disorder is hard as it is, and a good support system is key in order overcome it. Many people have a stigma towards those struggling with a mental health disorder which can distress an individual even more than they already may be feeling. Mental Health on college campuses is important because from the ages of 18 through about 22 are transitional periods and individuals are having to try a lot of new things and change a lot. This is the prime environment for a mental health disorder to either develop or heighten. It is crucial to prevent stigma from happening and to treat a mental health disorder before it begins to heavily affect one's daily life.

The Solution

The most common cause of stigma is a lack of education on the subject, mental health. For the most part, the solution is simple: EDUCATE. Mental Health is just as important and should be treated as such, compared to physical health.

Mission Statement

At some point in our lives, there is an extremely high chance that either you or someone you know and love will be affected by a mental health disorder. Regardless, anyone struggling with a mental health disorder should not feel ashamed. Students Against Stigma aims to eliminate stigma and educate students on college campuses.
